Households across the UK could do much more damage than just clogging their pipes by thoughtlessly pouring certain things down their sink. When it comes to plumbing, three key things to avoid pouring down your sink are fats, oils, and grease (FOG).
Some people may decide to empty these into their sink after cooking, especially if they're frying food. However, over time these FOG products can significantly accumulate in your pipes, potentially clogging the drain.
Despite this, clogged drains are not the worst side effect of FOG products, but instead could cause significant damage to your whole kitchen and even pose a serious health risk. This is because accumulated FOG can result in something known as a sewer backup.
