State pensioners are set to pay back their £200 winter fuel payment under a Rachel Reeves stealth tax plan. Labour Party Chancellor, Ms Reeves, will deliver her Autumn Budget in the Commons on Wednesday.

Under her plan to freeze tax bands, state pensioners face bills from HMRC as the Triple Lock drags their payments from the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) over the threshold.

By 2029 to 2030, state pensioners risk HMRC bills demanding £200.17. It means the £200 handout from the DWP - the Winter Fuel Payment - will essentially be completely wiped out.
