Two dining tables crafted by legendary North Yorkshire furniture maker Robert “Mouseman” Thompson have sold for a combined total of £78,000, setting a world record for a piece of Mouseman furniture.

The tables, which had belonged to Moorlands School in Leeds, were auctioned by Hawleys at Beverley Racecourse on Saturday (November 22), after the school announced plans to close at the end of the year.

One of the pieces, a 19.7ft-long oak refectory table made in 1937, achieved a £42,000 sale, the highest price ever paid at auction for Mouseman furniture.
