OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Two people have been arrested after a five-year-old accidentally shot themself in Omaha on Sunday afternoon.
In a release, the Omaha Police Department says the shooting happened in the area of 14th and Fort streets.
Officers went to the hospital shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday for a child with a gunshot wound. An initial investigation showed that the child got a hold of an unsecured firearm prior to the accident.
In an update Monday morning, OPD says 28-year-old Trae Colvin was booked on charges of two counts of felony child neglect and two counts of misdemeanor child neglect.
27-year-old Gabriella Gutierrez was cited on charges of two counts of misdemeanor child neglect.
OPD says the child’s injuries are not life-threatening and the investigation is ongoing.
