This weekend brought a rare traffic sight to the Maricopa Meadows when an orange sports car flew off the roadway and burst into flames on Saturday.

It was a single-vehicle crash in a greenbelt area near Hogenes Boulevard and Rainbow Drive , which prompted a Maricopa Fire/Medical Department response that evening. Witnesses reported seeing white smoke coming from the vehicle before it later caught fire, according to city officials.

The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m., said MFMD spokesperson Monica Williams. One person was arrested, but no additional information was released.

Aside from tire tracks in the grass, officials reported no property damage beyond the burned vehicle.

City officials said more information about the arrest will be released as it becomes available.
