Peter Lawwell is probably, as events at the stormy Celtic AGM at Parkhead on Friday morning underlined, as unpopular a figure within the Scottish champions’ support as he is with followers of their city rivals Rangers these days.

The more militant element among the Glasgow giants’ fanbase caused proceedings to be first adjourned and then abandoned altogether last week by heckling the board.
