POLK CITY, Iowa —
This Thanksgiving, hundreds of veterans and their families in Polk County will receive delicious meals delivered by volunteers as part of the annual Holiday for Heroes event, led by Polk City Legion Rider Bob Coffey.
Sunday, nearly 500 festive dishes were delivered across the county by hundreds of volunteers, including members of the sheriff's department and local high school wrestlers.
Curtis Carrington, director of American Legion Post 232 Riders and a veteran, said, "It's an overwhelming feeling to be able to give back to the community and say thank you."
The meals will include turkey, sides and pies.
Throughout the year, American Legion Post riders hold fundraisers and auctions to support Holiday for Heroes.
