A SCOTTISH defence firm is to explore hiring some of the workers from Mossmorran following the site closure.

Babcock International, based in the Port of Rosyth in Fife , has communicated a "willingness to explore whether, in time and if required" hiring some of the 400 workers affected by the planned closure of Fife 's Ethylene Plant, announced by ExxonMobil last week .

At a key meeting with Fife Council, the UK and Scottish Governments, representatives met with business leaders and unions today to discuss support for the workforce and local communities.

The meeting at Fife House brought together Fife council leader David Ross, Secretary of State for Scotland Douglas Alexander MP, and Minister for Public Finance Ivan McKee MSP.
