BBC board member Robbie Gibb has said he has no intention of stepping down – and rejected claims that he is an “active agent” of the Tory Party within the broadcaster.

Gibb appeared before MPs on Westminster ’s Culture Committee on Monday afternoon amid a leadership crisis at the corporation – including the double resignation of BBC director general Tim Davie and chief of BBC News Deborah Turness, which was followed by board member Shumeet Banerji also stepping down.

The resignations came over the BBC’s handling of an edit of a speech by Donald Trump , given on January 6, 2021 – the day his supporters attempted to violently prevent the election of Joe Biden being ratified – which has led the US president to threaten a $1 billion legal action.
