Microsoft announced in a Windows Insiders blog post that its lightweight text editor Notepad is currently testing extended formatting capabilities with support for tables. The idea is to allow users to easily insert tables into their text documents to better structure notes.
The new “Table” option is available in the formatting toolbar, but can also be added directly using Markdown syntax. Once the table is inserted, it can also be edited—for example, rows and columns can be added or removed via the right-click menu or the Table menu.
This feature will first be available to pre-testers in the Windows 11 Insider Canary and Dev channels. It’s currently unknown when tables will arrive in the standard version of Windows 11 for everyone else.
