SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Thanksgiving travel is being made a little easier for Illinois drivers.

On Monday, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced that lanes that were closed for construction will reopen where possible. IDOT said they made the decision to minimize traffic for the Thanksgiving weekend.

Non-emergency lane closures will be suspended from 3 p.m. on Wednesday until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.

IDOT also said some lane closures will stay in place during the Thanksgiving weekend.

In Winnebago County, Illinois Route 2 over the Rock River near Rockton will keep its lane reductions.
