NORTH ADAMS, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Two people are dead following a Monday morning fire in Berkshire County.

According to Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Julia Sabourin, emergency crews were called to 77 Francis Street around 7 a.m. after neighbors reported a house fire. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the single-family home and witnesses indicated that there may be people inside.

Firefighters entered the house through the basement to attack the fire, as well as search for occupants. They then located two people inside the house, who were both deceased when firefighters reached them. Nobody else was found inside the house. The names of the victims have not yet been released.
