SHREVEPORT, La. - It’s the time of giving, and local organizations are stepping up their efforts to help those less fortunate this holiday season.
I Am Change Inc., Refreshing Point Ministries, and the NAACP of Shreveport sponsored a big food giveaway on Monday morning at Refreshing Point Ministries. The organizations gave out 150 turkeys and 150 brown bags full of groceries. Representatives from the Marshall's office, Aldi, and Walmart were there to help hand out food.
Organizers felt it was necessary to give back to the community, especially with the recent government shutdown.
"Just so excited to see the smiles on the people's faces, and they're waving and thanking us," said Refreshing Point Ministries Pastor Rick Layton. "And you can't get enough of that."
