NORFOLK — Any speculation that former Penn State coach James Franklin was being anything other than a friend on a recent night at S.B. Ballard Stadium is just that, said the man he came to visit.

And there are no plans for a long-term reunion.

Old Dominion coach Ricky Rahne didn’t just shoot down unfounded rumblings Monday of his possible departure to join Franklin’s nascent staff at Virginia Tech; he put a crater beneath them.

The ball, Rahne said, remains in the court of athletic director Wood Selig and university president Brian O. Hemphill.
