(AZFamily) — A Chandler man who’s currently awaiting trial in a murder case is set to spend several years in federal prison in connection with a multimillion-dollar investment fraud scheme.

Last week, 40-year-old Anthony Ruinard Jr. was sentenced to more than seven years in prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud. He was also ordered to pay $4.5 million in restitution to dozens of victims.

Ruinard reportedly scammed 54 victims out of $5.6 million in an elaborate scheme involving a fake business called “Legacy Investors Group Inc.”

Federal prosecutors said Ruinard pretended to be a successful investor who promised other would-be investors returns through investments in venture capital, private equity and real estate.
