Deuce Knight’s performance in his first career start impressed many on Saturday.
Interim head coach DJ Durkin was one of those admirers, as Knight threw for 239 yards, rushed for 162 and scored six total touchdowns, tying a school record.
Knight was starting in place of Ashton Daniels, who sat out against Mercer to preserve his redshirt. When Durkin met with reporters on Monday, he was asked whether or not Knight’s performance was enough to give him a bigger role , whether as the starter or a package player.
“That’s a great idea. I’ll take that back upstairs,” Durkin said jokingly. “We’ll see if we can get that done.”
Apart from that one comment in jest, Durkin didn’t give anything else away about what Auburn is going to do at quarterback this week.
