EAST HARTFORD, CT. (WFSB) - The U.S. Department of Education has removed nursing from a list of professional degrees, making some students ineligible for federal loans at a time when the country faces a nursing shortage.
President Donald Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill doesn’t classify nursing as professional, meaning that students who are seeking advanced degrees will not be eligible for graduate loans.
Goodwin University in East Hartford, which graduates more than 200 nursing students annually, operates the largest college nursing simulation center in Connecticut.
The university’s president said the federal changes will have wide reaching impact.
