8 ON YOUR SIDE CONSUMER ALERT: Hyundai and Kia are recalling hundreds of thousands of cars due to concerns over their gas tank.
First, Hyundai is recalling more than 85,000 2020-2023 Sonata sedans.
The problem is a possible gas tank leak that could result in the gas tank actually melting.
Hyundai says it has seven reports of leaking gas tanks.
Owners will get a letter in the mail with instructions on how to get their cars fixed. Hyundai says it will reimburse owners who may have already paid for repairs.
The same type of recall is affecting more than 250,000 2021-2024 Kia K5 sedans.
Drivers may hear a popping noise near the gas tank, see a “check engine” light or notice rough performance.
Kia dealers will inspect cars and make repairs for free.
