SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -The busiest travel period of the year is here, as nearly 82 million Americans will be traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday, with a majority of those travelers on the road.

“AAA is projecting about 274,000 South Dakotans will be traveling at least 50 miles or more from home during this holiday, and about 91% to 92% of them will be driving to their destination, so about 247,000 South Dakotans will be making a road trip,” said Sean Steward, Manager, Public and Government Affairs for AAA .

For the projected 13,000 South Dakotans who are flying, AAA recommends allowing yourself plenty of time.
