SUFFOLK COUTNY (WABC) -- Prosecutors on Long Island said on Monday they have dismantled a "sophisticated criminal organization" that stole FedEx packages containing electronic devices.

The alleged porch pirates included a network of "runners" who stole packages throughout Suffolk County.

The thieves used insider FedEx tracking information that enabled targeted thefts, prosecutors said. Other defendants were involved in the wholesale redistribution of stolen devices both domestically and internationally.

Prosecutors said there were 48 alleged pattern acts of theft affecting Suffolk County residents and businesses.

The defendants face charges including Enterprise Corruption, Grand Larceny, Identity Theft, Robbery and Conspiracy.
