VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The Virginia Beach City Council has not approved a pay raise since 2006, but that could change come Tuesday. On the agenda: city council members will discuss an ordinance that could double their salaries.
Requested by Vice Mayor Rosemary Wilson, and City Council members David Hutcheson and Joashua Schulman, the pay raises would be limited to council members and the mayor.
Distraught residents addressed the proposal during public comment and overwhelmingly spoke against the measure. Some described it as "inappropriate," following the nation's longest government shutdown and widespread economic pain.
