There are currently 22 countries slapped with the U.S. Department of State's highest travel advisory, Level 4: Do Not Travel. But this month, the State Department notably increased its warnings for two African nations on the Do Not Travel list, the Central African Republic (CAR) and South Sudan. A Level 4 country in the same region also got an expanded warning last month .
Both CAR and South Sudan were slapped with new life-threatening risk indicators, highlighting worsening armed conflicts and humanitarian crises. Interestingly, the tourism minister for South Sudan just announced immediate plans to reopen its tourism sites to international visitors. Here is a closer look at the situations in these places.
