GARFIELD TWP., MI – Witnesses reportedly helped nab the suspect in Sunday’s kidnapping attempt outside a Meijer gas station along U.S. 31, according to police.

A 51-year-old man from Benzie County was arrested Sunday , Nov. 23, after he allegedly tried to abduct a woman at around 8:30 a.m. in the station parking lot in Garfield Township just outside of Traverse City.

On Monday afternoon, 9 and 10 News reported bystanders at the gas station were able to help identify the man after he was arrested. Michigan State Police and deputies from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Department had canvassed the area looking for the suspect’s vehicle Sunday when he was stopped shortly after 10 a.m. south of the attempted abduction site at Chums Corners.
