Authorities say a 14-year-old Denham Springs girl was arrested on suspicion of murder after her newborn daughter was found dead inside a tote bag on Friday.

According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Walker after staff reported that the teenager, who was seeking medical treatment, had recently given birth at home.

Sheriff Jason Ard said deputies later went to the girl’s residence, where they discovered the infant inside a tote bag, with severe injuries to her neck.

The teenager was initially charged with failure to seek assistance and obstruction of justice. An autopsy later confirmed the baby's death was a homicide. Sheriff Ard said medical personnel believe the baby was carried to full term, born alive, and killed shor
