EUGENE, Ore. - An equine herpes virus outbreak linked to barrel racing and rodeo events in Texas and Oklahoma has prompted action from the Oregon Department of Agriculture.
The outbreak has led to several confirmed cases and horse deaths under investigation in those states.
Currently, Oregon has no confirmed cases. However, the Oregon Horse Center in Eugene has quarantined its back barns after a horse displayed symptoms. Test results are expected soon.
In Jackson County, the Expo has temporarily closed all horse facilities. The closure was announced on Facebook, emphasizing the priority of safety for animals, participants, and the public.
