CONWAY, Wash. — State environmental regulators have fined the operators of the Olympic Pipeline $3.8 million for a fuel spill in Dec. 2023 that released 21,000 gallons of gasoline. The spill near Conway forced a school to temporarily close and killed multiple animals .
The Washington Department of Ecology announced the fine against Olympic Pipe Line Company and BP Pipelines on Monday, and is seeking to recover over $820,000 in response costs. The incident required a three-month cleanup effort and killed ducks, a beaver and other wildlife.
Ecology said BP and Olympic Pipe Line are being penalized for unlawful discharge of pollution into state waters and negligence.
