GREENSBORO, N.C. — Toshia Dunlap is no stranger to adversity. She has survived a stroke, heart surgery and multiple kidney operations leading up to a recent transplant. But after years of battling health complications, she says another challenge blindsided her — this time from her pharmacy and insurance provider.

“It started to wear me out mentally, emotionally and physically,” Dunlap said.

After her surgery, Dunlap did what she believed was required. She notified her pharmacy that her insurance coverage had changed and continued picking up her ongoing prescriptions. But months later, she discovered the pharmacy had continued billing her old insurance company.
