PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - A Peoria lawmaker is calling her work on the Clean Slate Act , “a labor of love.”

For Democratic State Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth, this is more than just legislation — it is a decade-long journey rooted in personal experience.

She began the work more than 10 years ago, hosting the first downstate expungement summit in 2016, reaching out to businesses and law enforcement to shape what became the Clean Slate Act.

The bill will automatically seal or expunge certain misdemeanors and low-level felonies, offering a fresh start. Currently, 2.2 million Illinois residents qualify for record sealing or expungement.
