HOOVER, Ala. —

The city of Hoover announced its new leader of the police department.

The City Council met Monday and voted unanimously to approve the appointment of Clay Morris as the new police chief.

Morris, accompanied by his family at the meeting, expressed his gratitude after receiving the appointment. "Council, I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you for your trust in me to lead a department that is known throughout the Southeast as one of the best departments in truly the Southeast and the country," Morris said. "I can assure you, I'll work tirelessly with you to bring a whole-of-government approach to public safety in Hoover."
