GRAND FORKS – The Grand Forks School Board on Monday approved a 20-year, 90% Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) financing application for a proposed housing project.
The Brookstone Apartments LLC project is expected to offer 160 units built on 39th Avenue South, near Furniture Row. The School Board approved the PILOT request 7-2, after an hour-long discussion and after hearing from multiple speakers in favor of the project – including the Grand Forks mayor.
“We're only going to see more people coming to Grand Forks. And we can't have two years like we just had,” Mayor Brandon Bochenski said. “I think having growth and having housing can lead to more development and more projects that are going to pay more property tax, which can help out the School Board.”
