NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - The City of Cushing is planning for the future. The council held a workshop meeting Monday morning to brainstorm ideas and services to bring into the area.

“We don’t want to be a ghost town in 50 years. We want to be a nice, little thriving community,” said interim city mayor Rose Stewart.

Stewart said bringing in new businesses will help bring more jobs and improve city infrastructure.

“We can further improve the roads. Our main focus has been the water and infrastructure,” she said.

Creating a city website is among the list of improvement projects. The city hopes to go out for bids before the end of the year.

The council also talked about having a city park. As of Monday, there is no city park. Stewart said kids are able to use the old Cushing ISD
