PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona advocates are pushing for more protections for victims of child sexual assault as multiple laws heightening penalties for convicted sex offenders are being challenged.
One of those advocates is Kayleigh Kozak. Her teacher sexually abused her as a child, and she has spent more than half her life living with the trauma of that abuse. The teacher was convicted and sentenced to lifetime probation, but a few years ago, he petitioned to have the probation lifted.
“I struggle, and I wonder why,” Kozak said. “But God clearly chose me to walk this path. And so I’m going to walk it no matter how hard it gets.”
