Some crimes and criminals are so extreme that the revulsion is experienced on the whole political spectrum.
That is the case with a person who calls himself “Commander Butcher,” a neo-Nazi activist who plotted to poison Jewish children in Brooklyn, N.Y., with candy.
The candy-poisoning plot was cooked up with an undercover FBI agent and did not come close to execution. Attributed to the influence of this same individual are a murder that was carried out in Nashville and the stabbing of five people in Turkey.
It’s unfortunate that a mere 40 years is the maximum prison term available for Michail Chkhikvishvili, someone who contributes to the pernicious revival of one of the world’s most odious ideologies.
