TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) has crowned a women’s volleyball champion since 1989. The lowest seed in the conference tournament has never won it all, until Sunday.
“There was not a single doubt in anyone’s mind coming into the tournament that we were going to win, and I’m glad that we actually manifested it here,” said Florida A&M sophomore setter Makenzie Taylor.
The eight seeded Rattlers beat Southern University 3-1 (25-12, 20-25, 25-22,25-23)
“Honestly, it feels amazing to come in as the underdog and end up coming up top, but this isn’t an unfamiliar feeling for FAMU,” said freshman outside hitter LaDonna Trantham.
It’s the teams’ second-straight SWAC title and fourth in five years.
