The High Court in Blantyre has suspended for seven days a case in which Kalibu Academy is seeking an injunction to stop a mosque in Chileka from making what the school describes as excessive noise during prayer calls.
Kalibu Academy lodged the complaint against Kachanga Mosque, arguing that the call to prayer disrupts lessons and infringes on the rights of other students to learn in a quiet environment.
Representatives of the school told the court that the noise levels interfere with academic activities and disturb non-Muslim students and staff.
Judge Mike Tembo granted the pause after lawyer Morris M’baya, representing the mosque, asked for more time to review all necessary documentation before responding to the application.
