Marshall University now has that opportunity in its final football game of the regular season against Georgia Southern. At five wins apiece, both teams are in must-win situations for bowl eligibility.
The Thundering Herd fell 26-24 to Appalachian State on Saturday in a game best described by its misfortunes.
Marshall outgained the Mountaineers 438-276. It had more first downs, it had more rushing and passing yards, it had a better third-down conversion rate and it led time of possession.
It also had a chance to win – driving past midfield before a fumble in the final drive literally turned it over to the hands of Appalachian State.
