SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A 25-year-old man will be sentenced Tuesday for a 2016 shooting where the victim died from complications to his injuries in 2024.
Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich said Damon’te Sherrod shot Mario Harris, 19, on McKilney Avenue in Akron.
Harris was found in the rear passenger seat of a stolen vehicle with a gunshot wound to the face.
Akron police said Sherrod had been driving the car and once the vehicle was parked, began playing with a gun and shot Harris.
Sherrod called 911 and stayed until officers arrived, said police.
Harris suffered severe brain injuries and paralysis which required full-time care until his death on Nov. 20, 2024.
