A man has been handed a jail sentence for the rape of a woman while on a date more than three years ago.

Anwarul Islam, formerly of Springett Avenue in the Lewes District of East Sussex, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday, November 21 for sentencing.

He was found guilty of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault at an earlier

The offences involved a woman aged in her 30s, whom the 38-year-old Islam was introduced to over the phone through a mutual contact.

The pair exchanged voice notes and arranged to meet in person the next day but were not known to each other.

On the evening of the attack, the pair visited a pub in Elmswell, where he followed the victim into a toilet cubicle and raped her.
