The Newark community gathered Monday evening to honor the memory of 19-year-old Masi Rogers, who was among the victims of last week’s shooting that left three dead and two injured .

The balloon ceremony, held at 5 p.m. in Saint Peters Park, came just days after Rogers died from injuries he sustained in the shooting Nov. 15, at the corner of Chancellor Avenue and Leslie Street.

Two other victims, 10-year-old Jordan Garcia and 21-year-old Kiyah Mae Scott , were also killed.

An 11-year-old, Jayceon Garcia, and a 60-year-old man were wounded, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Community activist and educator Bashir Muhammad Ptah Akinyele, who taught Rogers at Weequahic High School about two years ago, said he was “outraged” by the shooting.
