NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Coast Guard confirms that two people were aboard a plane that possibly crashed over Lake Pontchartrain on Monday.

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Cheyenne Basurto has confirmed to WWL Louisiana that two people were on board the small Cessna plane that was flying out of an airport in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Debris was found late last night during the search for the plane.

The plane was reported to have lost .

According to Petty Officer Basurto with the Coast Guard’s Heartland District, a helicopter first spotted water discoloration at 7:34 p.m.

Wildlife and Fisheries later discovered what appeared to be debris from a small plane, including a seat cushion, at about 11 p.m. on Monday.
