The Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe has begun hearing a case involving former State House Deputy Chief of Staff, Godfrey Arthur Jalale, who was arrested on Friday on allegations that he stole four German Shepherd dogs valued at K4 million from the State House.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged offence took place between 19th September and 4th October this year.
Prosecutors told the court that Jalale’s arrest followed an ongoing investigation into the disappearance of the high-value dogs. The State also asked the court to remand the accused, arguing that investigations are still underway and the dogs have not yet been recovered.
Jalale, who is being represented by lawyer Nkwima Mchizi, has entered a plea of not guilty.
