GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- An alleged wrong-way driver was charged with intoxication manslaughter in a crash that killed a nursing student, the Galveston County Sheriff's Office said .
Officials said Autumn Avina, 29, allegedly killed 23-year-old Neil Abad on Sept. 22 while driving the wrong way on Broadway in Galveston. They added that she crashed with the UTMB nursing student in a fiery crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene soon after.
Avina was seriously hurt and pinned inside her vehicle, requiring extrication by first responders, GCSO said.
GCSO added that Avina was rushed to the same hospital that Abad was a student at for medical treatment.
Officials charged her with intoxication manslaughter, and she was taken into custody on Monday. Her bond was set at $250,000.
