CINCINNATI, Ohio ( WXIX /WOIO) - A Cincinnati area father was arrested after his infant daughter was found “severely malnourished,” court records say.

Cody Mercer, 34, of Springfield Township, was taken into custody and charged with endangering children Nov. 11 after police discovered his 1-year-old daughter malnourished and dehydrated, according to a criminal complaint filed with the Hamilton County Municipal Court.

Records state that the 20-month-old weighed 13 pounds, had bed sores so severe that they may require surgery and a body temperature of 80 degrees.

An affidavit said the child was taken to Children’s Hospital for care and is expected to be there for an ‘extended period.’

Mercer was released on his own recognizance and ordered to have no contact with his daughter.
