A 'gripping' 2013 comedy that fans claim features James McAvoy's greatest performance to date is currently streaming on Netflix , but not for long. ‌

The psychological film is based on legendary author Irvine Welsh's 1998 novel of the same name, and follows an immoral detective who sees a new murder case as his path to promotion. ‌

But his life spirals when he begins experiencing severe hallucinations amidst the investigation. A synopsis teases: "In Edinburgh, Bruce Robertson, a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. ‌

"As he turns his colleagues against one another by exposing their secrets, Bruce starts to lose himself in a web of deceit that he can no longer control."
