A South Florida lawmaker is pushing a resolution that would give homeowners 65 and older in the state an exemption on non-school property taxes.
The proposal, House Joint Resolution 205, was passed last week by the Select Committee on Property Taxes.
Rep. Juan Carlos Porras, a Miami Republican, is sponsoring the proposal.
"Floridians deserve a real, common-sense solution, and I believe HJR 205 gives voters the power to decide what’s best for their communities," Porras posted on X.
The resolution would eliminate non-school property tax for homesteads of people 65 or older.
It would also prohibit counties and municipalities from reducing total funding for law enforcement.
