KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI — Elected officials can’t be removed from office by their peers or township employees. They can, however, be removed from office by constituents in a recall vote.

Comstock and Oshtemo township residents have set that process in motion. Nine trustees between the two townships are named in recall petitions filed this month.

Both townships are contending with plans for battery energy storage facilities, also known as BESS facilities, which many residents vehemently oppose.

The Kalamazoo County Election Committee will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 at 201 W. Kalamazoo Ave. to review nine recall petitions for clarity and factuality.

If approved, the committee will also set the number of signatures required to put the recalls on an upcoming ballot.
