MLB insider Jon Heyman has reported that the St. Louis Cardinals have traded right-hander Sonny Gray to the Boston Red Sox .
Bob Nightengale quickly confirmed the report that Gray has been informed he is being traded to Boston.
Gray, who just turned 36 years old, was 14-8 last season with the Cardinals and held a 4.28 earned run average. Gray made 32 starts, striking out 201 batters in 180.2 innings pitched.
The right-hander was drafted in the 27th round by the Chicago Cubs in 2008. He then went to Vanderbilt and was drafted in the 2011 draft in the first round (18th overall) by the Oakland Athletics .
