PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Hundreds of families are receiving baskets packed with all the Thanksgiving must-haves, thanks to the hard work of the Philadelphia Police Department.
The department is hosting its annual "Operation Thanksgiving" on Tuesday, which is the culmination of months of preparation to give back to the community.
A majority of this food comes directly from officer donations, with more than 16,000 collected.
Students from Roman High also volunteered to help pack the goods and fill 425 boxes.
The boxes include turkey, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, cake mix, green beans, canned goods, stuffing sauce, cake mix, cornbread and gravy.
Each box has a heartfelt note from Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel.
