The search for a small Cessna plane that crashed in the water Monday evening near New Orleans’ Lakefront Airport continued Tuesday with search crews and the U.S. Coast Guard scouring Lake Pontchartrain.
The plane took off from Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, the Biloxi Sun Herald reported . Contact with the aircraft was lost contact about 4 miles north of the New Orleans airport, according to the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard was notified about the missing plane around 6:30 p.m. They deployed an MH-60 helicopter and a 29-foot response boat.
Crews from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries, St. Tammany Parish, Jefferson Parish and Cajun Navy volunteers also took part in the search.
