Plastic and paper to-go cups will be accepted in curbside recycling carts in central Arkansas beginning Monday, officials announced on Tuesday.

The change applies to residential recycling customers in Little Rock, North Little Rock, Sherwood and the unincorporated areas of Pulaski County. Waste Management handles recycling pickup in those jurisdictions through a regional contract.

"This is a big deal because every cup we keep out of the landfill and off our roadsides is a win for our environment and for future generations," Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde said during a news conference at Waste Management's recycling facility in Little Rock. "It's one more step toward a cleaner, more sustainable Pulaski County."
